CASA, ACT implementing member in India, is warning of a cyclonic
storm over central Arabian Sea rapidly moving towards the south of
Gujarat Coast.
At 13:00 local time, the Indian Meteorological department reported
that the storm was some 500 km south of the coast of Gujarat, moving
towards the areas still highly vulnerable from the recent earthquake.
According to the latest release by local authorities, the army had
been placed on alert, while some of the local population has been
moved away to lower risk areas. All major ports are closed.
A cyclone alert has been also declared in Pakistan.
ACT members in India are on a stand-by and ready to move into the
area at a short notice. They are closely monitoring the situation
and providing the first-hand information. Initial contingency planning
is being done with emphasis on food, drinking water and temporary
shelter.
Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
